TYDE: The Icon
With the debut of THE ICON, the first battery-powered marine vehicle of its kind, TYDE has already accomplished a significant goal. This was accomplished in conjunction with BMW and the innovation firm Designworks, which is a subsidiary of the BMW Group.
THE ICON has established new benchmarks in the competitive arena, and it has been awarded with the “Wallpaper Smart Space Award” and the “Boat Builder Award” for its original design. Its outstanding range and hydrofoils, which were borrowed from sailing racing, have substantially reduced the amount of energy that is consumed.
The continuation of an ambitious partnership that is making a significant contribution to the development of environmentally responsible transport on the water is now underway. The new concept is the first climate-friendly open luxury yacht, and it represents a class of revolutionary watercraft that is distinguished by a user experience that has been revolutionised, the development of the most sophisticated automotive technology, radical innovations, and progressive design. The open boat idea is a pioneer in this new category, and it is especially designed to cater to the requirements of private customers who are specifically interested in luxury items that are both creative and environmentally friendly.
“With THE ICON, we have shown how elegant and luxurious sustainable mobility on the water can be. The continuation of the cooperation with BMW is now fuelling the launch into another segment. The new model brings future-orientated mobility to the day yacht segment,” says Christoph Ballin, co-founder and Managing Director of TYDE.
By consistently driving forward the cooperation with TYDE, BMW is also emphasising its commitment to sustainable drive technologies and individual mobility off the road. “Our aim is to use pioneering design and intelligent technology transfer from the automotive sector to provide additional impetus for the BMW-typical joy of sustainable mobility,” says Stefan Ponikva, Vice President Brand Communication and Brand Experience BMW.
BMW is supplying components and experience from the field of electromobility, while TYDE is responsible for the idea, development, manufacture, and marketing of the project. TYDE is also responsible for the marketing of the project. It is once again the creative studio of Designworks, which is a division of the BMW Group, that responsible for the artwork.
It has a length of just under 15 metres and provides all of the facilities that are available on a premium day boat, but it does not produce any emissions while it is in operation. It is possible for passengers to float incredibly gently, even when there is swell, thanks to the foiling technology, which allows the vehicle to rest on hydrofoils below the water level while the hull floats above the water surface. This technology not only saves almost 80 percent of the energy that would otherwise be used.
The inside of the boat, which has the appearance of a traditional yacht, is brilliant and sumptuous, with the exception of the hydrofoils. A one-of-a-kind atmosphere is created in the saloon as a result of the natural light that comes in from the sides and the ceiling.
Through the partnership that they have formed on this forward-looking initiative, TYDE and BMW are bringing together a fresh viewpoint on the topics of electrification, sustainability, and innovations for marine transportation.
The new Day Yacht is now available for purchase, and its introduction was made in the context of the 28th World Climate Change Conference, which will take place in Dubai in December of this year. The initial boats are scheduled to be delivered in the fall of 2024.
