Dynamic Perfection And Driving Pleasure

McLaren has introduced the new GTS, which will serve as a successor to the GT in the lineup of vehicles produced by the company. Drivers who want the dynamic perfection and driving pleasure of a McLaren as well as the ride comfort, refinement, and baggage capacity that are suitable for normal drives and lengthy excursions will be delighted with the super-lightweight GTS, which was designed to meet their needs.

In addition to retaining the core McLaren attractions of a beautiful yet functional design, a class-leading power-to-weight ratio (which is made possible by lightweight carbon fibre construction that is centred on a unique monocoque chassis), and unmatched driving dynamics, the new GTS is visually even more powerful and offers an increased choice of exterior and interior specification.

There are additional visual upgrades that make the GTS even more forceful than the GT, yet the exquisite external lines of the GT continue to serve as the foundation for the aerodynamic package and profile of the vehicle. The ‘hammerhead’ distinctive style has been revised at the front of the GTS, and a new lower front bumper part has been added to the vehicle. In this particular section of the vehicle, the air intakes have been redesigned to be more apparent and broader, with the intention of directing a greater quantity of air into the radiator system of the vehicle.

One of the available options for the front intake air blades is a gloss visual carbon fibre finish. This option reflects McLaren’s racing heritage and gives the GTS a more aggressive appearance. The car’s shoulders are where the new air scoops, which are higher and also available in gloss visible carbon fibre, are located. These air scoops are located on the rear fenders. The upgrades on the rear fenders are functional, much like the new front end, and they allow for more airflow into the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine because of their increased size.

A huge rear diffuser and dual exhausts are included in the strong looks and surfaces of the GTS. The latter is also a component of a package that provides a raw supercar soundscape on demand with the Sports Exhaust system, which is an optional accessory.

In order to give the GTS a stealthy image by default, the exhaust finisher, mirror caps, and window surrounds all come with a gloss black finish as standard equipment. When you pick the Stealth Badge Pack option, the new GTS badging, which includes the new side badges, can be tinted with a black finish. An underbody carbon pack is one of the visual carbon fibre choices available. This pack includes the front splitter, side skirts, and the rear bumper lower and diffuser. The front air intake blades, the rear fender air intakes, and the mirror caps are all examples of exterior features that may be completed in carbon fibre.

It is the carbon-fibre MonoCell II-T monocoque chassis that serves as the foundation for the GTS. This chassis is characterised by its sturdy and ultra-lightweight design, as well as the stiffness that is required for a mid-engine McLaren supercar. The GTS’s basic composite roof is constructed from recycled carbon fibre, which is one of the numerous weight-saving measures that were implemented throughout the building of the vehicle. These solutions contribute to the GTS’s exceptional performance and dynamics. Because of these decisions, the GTS is able to provide an exciting lightweight supercar driving experience without compromising the ride quality or causing additional noise, harshness, or vibration. The incorporation of these options makes this possible.

The GTS is the lightest car in its class, weighing only 1,520 kilogrammes (DIN), and it has the best power-to-weight ratio in its market, with 418 horsepower per tonne. The power output of the V8 M840TE 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine has been boosted to 635 horsepower at 7,500 revolutions per minute. The additional 15 horsepower is a result of greater crankshaft torque, which was made possible by modifications to the ignition timing and more aggressive combustion phasing. The GTS comes equipped with a launch-control system that, when used, allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour (62 to 62 miles per hour) in just 3.2 seconds and from 0 to 200 kilometres per hour (124 to 124 miles per hour) in only 8.9 seconds. 326 kilometres per hour (203 miles per hour) is the GTS’s top speed.

A seven-speed SSG gearbox is used in the GTS. This gearbox allows for shifts that are smooth, fluid, and fast while the vehicle is in Comfort mode, which ensures that the acceleration is both soothing and brisk. An further two driving modes, namely Sport and Track, may be accessed through the Active Dynamics Panel, allowing the driver to further improve their experience behind the wheel of a supercar. With instantaneous ignition spark-cut technology, sport offers a higher level of drama and urgency, resulting in gearshifts that are performed more quickly and with greater aggression. This is taken to an even higher degree by the Track mode, which maximises the performance of the gearbox while minimising the loss of torque that occurs between every change. It is possible to manually control the gearshifts by utilising the paddle shifters that are positioned on the steering wheel in any of the drive modes for the vehicle.

The tuning of the electro-hydraulic steering system, the suspension that comes standard and has adaptive damping with proactive damping adjustment, and the strong carbon ceramic braking system are all features that are exclusive to the GTS. In order to provide a realistic supercar driving experience, these aspects optimise the mid-mounted position of the V8 engine and the lightweight construction of the vehicle. Balance and agility are emphasised, but this does not come at the expense of comfort and ride quality when it is advantageous to do so.

When compared to other vehicles, the GTS’s steering provides a degree of input and a sensation that is unparalleled. In order to facilitate simplicity of use during low-speed movements such as parallel or bay parking, the system automatically raises the degree of help it provides automatically at low speeds. It is extremely precise and accurate.

The McLaren GTS is fitted with carbon ceramic brake discs measuring 390 millimetres in diameter at the front and 380 millimetres in diameter at the rear. Featuring lightweight aluminium callipers with six pistons (four pistons at the rear), the braking system provides exceptional feel and performance, allowing the vehicle to come to a stop from 62 miles per hour in just 32 metres.

Monroe, the Official Intelligent Suspension Supplier for McLaren Automotive, is responsible for the continuously variable, twin-valve hydraulic dampers that are an essential component of the lightweight, aluminium double-wishbone suspension. Proactive Damper Control, an adaptive damper technology developed by McLaren, allows the suspension characteristics to change depending on which of the three Active Dynamics modes (Comfort, Sport, and Track) the vehicle is travelling in. This spans from the highest possible level of compliance in the Comfort mode, which is perfect for driving with less stress, to the significantly more powerful damper control in the Track mode, which is great for driving with more energy.

In addition, the GTS is able to operate effectively in metropolitan settings without any problems. The visibility to the front is exceptional, and the rearward view is of the highest quality thanks to the huge glass tailboard, glazed C-pillars and large rear quarter windows. Through the use of the vehicle lift function, the underbody ground clearance of 110 millimetres may be extended to 130 millimetres. More than twice as quick as it was previously, the GTS vehicle lift is now capable of raising or lowering the nose in only four seconds, which is an improvement over the technology that was used for the GT.

The design of the monocoque chassis has a rear upper structure made of carbon fibre, which enables the production of a big and adaptable baggage area behind the passenger cell. A front-hinged, full-length glass tailboard that is electrically controlled and contains a soft close function is the means by which the cargo space, which has a capacity of 420 litres, may be accessible. In addition to the room for luggage, there is a storage compartment (150 litres) located within the nose of the vehicle. Because it has a total luggage space of 570 litres, the McLaren GTS is the most practical new supercar that is currently available for purchase.

The inside of the GTS was created to combine the sophisticated and opulent space with the high degree of performance that the automobile possesses, which is in line with the inherent practicality of the GTS. While it is a pleasant cabin for long-distance travels, it also provides a platform from which the driver may take full use of the car’s excellent dynamic capabilities during the voyage.

The sophisticated and high-quality cabin is constructed out of a combination of materials that have been chosen to create an atmosphere that is both luxurious and functional. Switches and controls made of machine-polished and knurled aluminium are strategically positioned throughout the cabin. These include the shifting paddles that are mounted on the steering wheel, as well as gloss black surrounds for the infotainment screen, the gear selector on the central console, air vent housings, and window switches. A satin carbon finish steering wheel clasp, enlarged gearshift paddles, and inside surrounds are all included in the visual carbon fibre packs that are available as an option. Additionally, sill finishes inscribed with the McLaren name are also included.

As a standard feature, the comfort seats of the GTS are covered with Nappa leather trim, and the steering wheel is also padded with leather. A whole new design is introduced with the introduction of the Performance and TechLux interior schemes. The seats with the performance trim are upholstered in Softgrain Aniline leather and Alcantara in either Jet Black or Barolo, and they include contrasting piping. The performance trim is athletic, smart, and technological. In addition, the performance features include heated memory comfort seats with power adjustments. At the same time as having a contemporary McLaren twist, the new TechLux interior concept is the epitome of classical beauty. A selection of interiors made of softgrain aniline leather are available, and they include elegant colour accents along with a double-piped design that is both distinctive and recently debuted on the seats.

The digital instrument display, which measures 10.25 inches and features graphics that are crisp and vivid, offers a clear view of important driving information such as speed, gear selection, and engine rpm. Additionally, it links with the navigation system that is included in order to deliver instructions that are detailed and step-by-step. In addition, the GTS is equipped with a central touchscreen entertainment system that measures 7 inches and is oriented in portrait mode. Because of its strong 10-core CPU, it is not only sharp and responsive, but it is also simple to use, with a menu and input technique that are similar to those found on smartphones. Satellite navigation that includes HERE® navigation mapping and real-time traffic information, Bluetooth telephone communication and media streaming, and DAB digital radio reception are all included as standard features. There is an option to purchase a Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system that includes carbon fibre sub-bass woofers and Kevlar mid-range drive units. The system consists of twelve speakers.

On the other hand, the natural light that is supplied by a glass panoramic roof can be replaced with an electrochromic glazed panel, which is an alternative to the normal carbon fibre composite gloss black roof. The inside illumination is provided by hidden-until-lit six-color ambient lighting. At the stroke of a button, the panel supplies the driver with the ability to pick one of five different degrees of light transmission. The electrochromic roof has a light transmission level of 0.6% when it is set to its darkest setting.

Lava Grey is a new colour that will be exclusive to the GTS from the moment it is released, in addition to an expanded and updated palette of exterior paints that includes new possibilities such as Mantis Green, Tanzanite Blue, and Ice White. A shimmering red fleck is included into this metallic finish, and it catches the light to provide a unique look that distinguishes it from other colours of grey.

Additional enhancements include a brand-new lightweight forged alloy wheel with ten spokes called the Turbine. This wheel is offered in the following colours: silver, gloss black, gloss black with diamond cut effect, and orum. A 10-twin-spoke forged alloy wheel is the standard wheel for the GTS. In addition, the GTS is available in Silver, Gloss Black, or Gloss Black Diamond Cut, and there is also an exclusive Tungsten option available. In order to reduce the amount of unsprung mass, both wheel designs may be coupled with new titanium locking wheel bolts that are available as an optional upgrade. These bolts are 35% lighter than conventional bolts. The P ZEROTM tyres that are supplied by McLaren’s technical partner Pirelli are designed specifically for the GTS. These tyres deliver exceptional levels of performance and grip, in addition to a degree of refinement that is equal in proportion.
