The first Thruxton, which evolved from the groundbreaking Bonneville racer, was essential in the development of motorcycle racing on both sides of the Atlantic.

The racing Bonnie gained its name from the late 1950s' famed Thruxton 500 race series, when it was a dominant force, with British racing veteran Mike Hailwood taking the maiden victory. After breaking the 100 mph barrier for the first time on a production Thruxton, Malcolm Uphill won the Isle of Man TT production event in 1969. In the 1960s, it was also the bike of choice on the road, and it was largely responsible for spawning a subculture of teen cafe racers. 

Over three major iterations, the Thruxton has remained the original cafe racer, embodying its spirit in every detail. In 2016, Triumph debuted a brand-new iteration of this legendary racing name, the Thruxton R — the Ultimate Cafe Racer — to widespread praise. With distinctive finishes, detailing, and the highest degree of engine and suspension specification, this state-of-the-art roadster is built to literally live up to legend. 

Designed and developed to evolve the legend even further, the new Thruxton RS model combines all the original cafe racer design DNA and pure original style with modern Thruxton capability while setting a new level of performance with a higher power engine, even more supreme cafe racer handling, and even more contemporary styling, finish, and detailing.

For an even more dynamic and agile ride, the Thruxton RS sheds six kilogrammes compared to the Thruxton R thanks to refined engine components and a lighter battery.

New category-leading Brembo 4-piston M50 radial monobloc callipers and twin floating Brembo front discs give superb stopping power on the Thruxton RS, in addition to the bike's reduced weight and new, specially-designed, race-specific Metzeler Racetec RR ultra sticky tyres. The premium, fully adjustable Hlins piggyback reservoir rear shock and race-bred adjustable Showa USD big piston forks create a dynamic and exciting ride.

The new Thruxton RS improves over the preceding Thruxton R by 8 PS in terms of power. High-compression pistons, redesigned ports and cam profiles, a supplementary air system, and a slew of lightweight engine components all contribute to this.

The Thruxton RS's peak torque is 112 Nm at 4,250 rpm, 700 rpm lower than its predecessor's, and it's present low in the rev range and across the whole power band. All these changes to the engine result in a 20% reduction in inertia, making the Thruxton RS more responsive and characterful, and allowing it to rev 500 rpm higher than the Thruxton R.

With the addition of a brand new Euro 5 spec catalytic converter, the Thruxton RS's distinctive twin upswept silencers produce lower emissions while still maintaining the distinctive sound of a British Racing Twin.

Underneath its sleek bodywork lies a liquid cooling system that has been seamlessly incorporated to reduce its visual impact. The Thruxton RS's Euro 5 homologation makes it possible for reduced emissions and improved fuel efficiency. This helps lower the total cost of ownership, especially when coupled with the long first major service interval of 10,000 miles (16,000 km).
