Bentley: One-of-a-kind seat cushions

To mark the occasion of the coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the skilled artisans of Bentley have created a special run of one-of-a-kind seat cushions for a number of Bentleys. The crew at Crewe, England's Bentley Dream Factory, has combined traditional methods with modern technology to digitise the unique Coronation Emblem and then painstakingly sew each cushion by hand.

Nearly 30,000 stitches in each emblem required careful refinement over the course of three days and four iterations of embroidery processing to meet Bentley's exacting quality standards. There are two distinct thread colours in the symbol, and three different colour variations were employed to contrast the various colours of skins chosen for the cushions that will be used in the Bentleys.

It took more than three hours to make each cushion, and the hides came from northern Europe because the region's mild climate and absence of barbed wire fences make the animals' natural markings easier to see. Before being meticulously sliced, each hide is examined, marked, and inspected by hand. The finished pillows, which were stitched, shaped, and finished entirely by hand, are on par in quality with the automobiles themselves. The custom cushions for this special event were hand-made under the direction of trim developer Ella Mitchell. The cushions are not for sale and will remain in Bentley's press vehicles for the foreseeable future.

The colour of the leather used in the interior of a Bentley is the first thing that everyone will notice. In preparation for this weekend's crowning festivities, we have matched the cushion colour schemes to the specifics of two Bentayga EWBs, two Bentayga Hybrids, and one other extremely bespoke Bentley.

Cushions come in Beluga, Porpoise, Newmarket Tan, and Imperial Blue with contrasting 1.4mm thick leather in colours including Cricketball, Cumbrian Green, and Saddle. The insignia stand out from the leather because to the contrasting colours of the thread used to stitch them on. The sizing and design of the cushions are based on those found in Bentley's Heritage Collection for the 1958 S1 Continental Flying Spur.
