A fresh addition to the Jersey Art Scene
London-based Grove Square Galleries are launching their Jersey expansion this summer, with a variety of events and exhibitions on the Island.
Established in early 2020 in Fitzrovia, the gallery is home to both established and emerging artists, achieving great success by merging digital innovation and physical exhibitions. Grove Square also offers a year-round programme of dynamic talks and events that run alongside artist-led exhibitions, something they are planning to replicate in Jersey.
The gallery operates under the helm of Art Director Serena Dunn, who has produced several successful solo and group shows collaborating alongside global charities such as Flora and Fauna and Food for Life Global, together with Emma Thynn, Marchioness of Bath.
A key objective of Grove Square Galleries is to champion and advise artists who are often struggling to find the right gallery to support and build their profiles and that of their work.
The Jersey office will allow Grove Square Galleries to introduce their sister gallery, and Europe’s first dedicated NFT art gallery and advisory service, Quantus Gallery.
This new gallery is located a stone’s throw from Spitalfields, London, and opened recently to much acclaim and press excitement. It has truly captured the zeitgeist, fusing the way traditional art has been displayed with the modernity of digital art. NFT Art is displayed on digital screens around the gallery, rather than in framed form.
95% of traditional art buyers are uncertain or uneducated about NFTs because it is such a new space and investment class. However, this growing sector was estimated to be worth US$41 Billion in 2021, and experts are predicting that to double in 2022. The Advisory Team at Quantus Gallery is key to ensuring art investors and buyers are making informed decisions about the digital art they buy. Like any high-value asset purchase, NFTs should be about demonstrating taste, value, and entry into a community.
Grove Square Galleries Jersey & Quantus Gallery Jersey will be spearheaded by James A Matthewson, who brings 20 years of Luxury and Digital Experience, together with his Co-Founder Jasmine Rose, an already established Artist Management expert who manages talent in Jersey such as Bluntroller and Glen Fox.
James and Jasmine can help navigate both the traditional art offerings Grove Square Galleries have, along with the new and intriguing world of Digital Art and NFTs from Quantus Gallery.
What is an NFT?
Non-Fungible Tokens are bits of digital information that prove authenticity and ownership of a piece of art. For example, if you buy a piece of digital art from Jersey-based artist, Bluntroller (described as the next Banksy) the associated NFT comes with it, proving it is an authentic work by the artist.
The NFT can also bring the story to life in ways the physical piece of art cannot. Animation, for example, can add both storytelling value as well as commercial value to the art.
For art buyers and investors, this additional level of authentication and verification brings enhanced value to their collection. For artists, NFTs can enable them to deliver far greater work to their customers, with a collection (or Drop as it is known) enabling them to sell more works than their physical counterparts.
Creating NFTs is known as ‘Minting’ and an artist will ‘mint’ a limited edition or series enabling their customers to be 1 of 100 for example to buy the NFT.
