WILDERNESS & SEALAND: Make a Positive Impact

Wilderness and Sealand have collaborated to release a small line of unique, repurposed luggage. There is a meeting of the urban and the wild in this partnership between two mission-driven brands. This gear is made with care and consideration for the environment and its inhabitants; it is handcrafted and eco-conscious, made from carefully and ethically obtained materials.

“We are thrilled to launch this one-of-a-kind collection featuring design-focused eco-conscious gear with our like-minded partners and friends, Sealand. Not only are we providing a solution around the most functional gear to bring on a Wilderness adventure, but we are doing so in a sustainable way that is closely aligned with our values”, noted Amanda Wilson, Wilderness Head of Partnerships and Retail Strategy.

“The coming together of our two brands may be considered unexpected, but we strive for uniqueness”, added Jasper Eales, Sealand Co-Founder and Creative Director. “Purpose is at the forefront of Sealand; offering sustainable gear to another purpose-led organisation in the business of travel couldn’t be a more exciting or aligned partnership. It has been a true collaboration, with product and story integration from both teams. We look forward to being able to offer functional and sustainable gear to a new global audience”.

Made from ECONYL® regenerative nylon waste, primarily comprised of industrial carpet waste and ghost fishing nets from the ocean, each bag is durable and weatherproof and comes in one of three different colour options. The combination of industrial quality webbing and ripstop weaves gives them superior durability for any outdoor activity. Taking its cues from the great outdoors, the collection features a wide array of bags and accessories, such as the Swish Tote, Dune Duffle, Rowlie Backpack, Toastie multi-purpose storage pouch, and Keezy keychains.

Each bag is tagged with the maker’s name and a QR code that leads to more information about the Cape Town artisans who crafted it. A Wilderness and Sealand private full-day itinerary brings together the brands’ preferred Cape Town experiences, from a culinary adventure prepared by a sought-after local forager to time spent with a non-profit providing ocean-based opportunities and environmental education to vulnerable youth. All Wilderness Travel Designers now offer this and additional Cape Town Wilderness Touring experiences to bookend your time in the bush.

“In addition to being available for purchase from Sealand’s online store, we are thrilled to be stocking the gear at some of our exclusive camps in Botswana, including Wilderness Mombo, DumaTau, King’s Pool and Vumbura Plains. This will give guests the perfect opportunity to browse the collection in our Safari Boutiques during their time in camp”, said Amanda.

Later this year, Wilderness and Sealand will expand the collection with a wheeled duffel bag and a cross-body sling bag, both of which are new to the market and will, the companies hope, increase the collection’s value thanks to their practicality and style.

“Our collaboration has truly brought our two brands together, with one purpose. Our shared vision is to protect the wild and get our guests out to explore it. We hope that by introducing this new collection, we will collectively make a positive impact through empowerment, responsible practices, and protecting the planet”, Amanda concluded.
