THE WORLD OF WELL-DESIGNED WELLNESS

The fashion for home gyms and wellness spaces is certainly on trend, but how do make sure your work out room is more Dior than dull? We talk to Paragon Studio about home gyms with a design as carefully sculpted as your abs. For owners of high-end real estate or designers working on luxury interior concepts, the home gym is the must-have accessory. From carefully curated custom spaces, to bespoke equipment that serves as both desirable décor and dumbbell, the desire to look good runs across the board.

“Clients in the luxury interiors market expect their home gym to be finished to the same exacting standards as the rest of their property,” begins Chris Lane, Lead Designer at Paragon Studio, which provides custom gym design and bespoke, sustainably produced gym equipment to an international clientele. “This can be achieved with high-end finishes, various levels of personalisation and, most importantly, in creating a gym space that’s unique to their needs,” continues Lane.

Custom gym design has become the latest trend in luxury living, with homeowners converting existing rooms within their property, extending them to suit or even creating purpose-built garden rooms to accommodate a gym space. “We see everything from basements to garages repurposed to become home gyms, but there’s a lot more to consider than simply plugging in a treadmill,” advises Lane. “From the equipment selection to the initial arrangement to ensure optimisation of space, we support clients in every step. The design of the gym and ensuring the space functions both in terms of form and style is essential.”

Paragon Studio has been hailed the pinnacle of luxury by those in the fitness profession all around the world, with their beautiful equipment in teak, oak, bronze, stainless steel and leather adorning the wellness areas of premium resorts, luxury residences and even superyachts.

“One of the easiest ways to add wow factor to a gym space, is to choose equipment from manufacturers that offer an element of personalisation as standard, such as different powder coat or upholstery colours,” says Lane. “When we’re designing a gym space, we can specify equipment from brands the client prefers, or equip the gym using Paragon’s own range of products,” explains Lane. “We’ll identify a harmonious colour scheme that works across equipment from multiple manufacturers, so everything looks like it’s from the same product family. Some manufacturers offer a wider range of colour and upholstery options, allowing the client more flexibility and creativity.”

Over and above what might be available as standard, equipment can also be customised in various other ways. It’s possible to wrap some equipment parts in vinyl or dip them in hydrographic ink to achieve printed or patterned effects, or other components can be covered with leather or fabric. “It’s important to note however, that customising equipment can invalidate manufacturer warranties. Make sure your equipment supplier is aware of any customisation being carried out and check what warranty that can still uphold for the item. When working with Paragon Studio for the design of your gym space, we’ll take care of that for you,” advises Lane.

The equipment designers at Paragon Studio have the health of the planet in mind as well when it comes to their product range. Great care is taken to limit the environmental footprint of the production process and their components, such as the wood used, is obtained from FSC certified suppliers and recycled steel is sourced for the metal aspects.

The most popular pieces provided by Paragon Studio include their own award-winning Diabolo Dumbbells, and their wooden wall bars with folding top bar, which is perfect for suspension and body weight training.

The result is a luxury aesthetic that’s sustainable, effective, and designed to make both your physique and your home the envy of your friends!
