THE CHAPMAN’S CHALLENGE AT PANGKOR LAUT RESORT

YTL Hotels has announced that the 25th annual Chapman's Challenge will be held from August 27–30, 2023, on the private island of the exclusive Pangkor Laut Resort. NORQAIN, the Chapman's Challenge 2023 Official Timekeeper, is providing a one-of-a-kind watch as a reward for the event, which is sure to attract up to 70 competitors. Independent Swiss watchmaker NORQAIN, known for its forward-thinking approach, will be front and centre throughout the competition.

The late British Colonel Freddy Spencer Chapman, who hid from the Japanese army for over three years, escaped enemy lines and swam across Emerald Bay to safety in 1945, inspiring what is now known as the Chapman's Challenge. The event begins with a 3.8-kilometre road run around the island and ends with a 1-kilometre swim in the water off Emerald Bay and a stop at Chapman's Bar.

Cocktails at Chapman's Bar, a lavish barbecue meal at Emerald Bay, and the awards presentation will round off the evening. An electronic scoreboard at Chapman's Bar will display the times of the top five finishers, and the best three in each category will earn thrilling stays at magnificent properties within the YTL Hotels global range. The grand prize for this year's competition is a 42mm NORQAIN's Wild ONE Khaki The Chapman's Challenge 2023 watch, priced at MYR24,980 (£4,392). The indomitable spirit of Colonel Freddy Spencer Chapman inspired the creation of this one-of-a-kind timepiece from NORQAIN's Independence Wild ONE collection, which boasts a distinctive printed Pangkor Laut Resort emblem on the sapphire crystal caseback. The watch's NORTEQ shell functions as a protective cage, and its rubber shock absorbers shield the Manufacture Calibre NN20/01. The watch is a tried-and-true companion for people who want a high-performance sports watch.

Along with Pangkor Laut Resort, NORQAIN is announcing a limited edition "The Chapman's Challenge" wristwatch series in honour of their historic partnership with The Chapman's Challenge 2023. Just 15 will be produced for pre-order by those taking part in The Chapman's Challenge in 2023. The green straits of Pangkor Laut Resort served as inspiration for the colour of the dial on this special edition of NORQAIN's Independence 40mm watch. The Chapman's Challenge 2023 and the Pangkor Laut Resort emblem are engraved on the sapphire caseback of this watch. In order to commemorate the special times and locations when its owners followed in the footsteps of Colonel Freddy Spencer Chapman, the NORQAIN Plate on the left side of the case can be engraved with a personal message.
