The Aston Martin DB12

This next generation of the famed DB bloodline sets a new standard with its revolutionary improvements to athletic personality and dynamic potential. The DB12 calls for a new standard, as it combines cutting-edge technology with opulent comfort and a thrilling driving experience. It’s not just a grand tourer; it’s the first of its kind in the world.

The DB12 goes on a different path. One that makes it the most fully realised and successful DB model ever produced by Aston Martin. Its class-leading 680 PS/800 NM V8 Twin-Turbo powerplant is ideally paired with a finely honed chassis, resulting in superb performance and handling that will delight and reward even the most demanding drivers. The end result is a revitalised Aston Martin that radiates genuine capability and enthusiasm for providing an unparalleled driving experience.

The DB12 is the result of a comprehensive design process that prioritised increasing both performance and emotional impact. It begins with making the chassis stiffer than before and finishes with custom-made Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tyres for Aston Martin. To complement its all-new suspension with the latest adaptive dampers, the DB12 has an Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system that is both accurate and direct and an Electronic Rear Differential (E-Diff) that improves the car’s agility and brings it to life on the most demanding roads.

The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system in the DB12 is the best in the business; it uses a six-axis inertia measurement to forecast available grip, and the driver may choose between five different modes to safely and confidently push the car to its limits. Simply put, no other Aston Martin series produced to date has focused so intently on breaking new ground in terms of dynamic performance.

In 2023, Aston Martin will be celebrating not one but two important anniversaries: the 110th anniversary of the company itself and the 75th anniversary of the legendary DB model series. More than a century of automotive fervour, state-of-the-art British invention, and high-octane racing prowess can be traced back to the official formation of the partnership that became Aston Martin by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. It occurs at one of the most exciting times in Aston Martin’s 110-year existence, as the company has been on top of the podium throughout the 2023 Formula 1® season. Maintaining a presence at the highest levels of international racing competition is essential to the success of the brand.

The Aston Martin DB12 is the prototype for the company’s next generation of sports automobiles, which prioritise speed and elegance. A new age has begun. One in which every Aston Martin vehicle features the legendary power and responsiveness, cutting-edge technology, and exquisite design for which the company is known, as well as the meticulous workmanship for which Aston Martin is recognised.

Roberto Fedeli, Group Chief Technology Officer of Aston Martin, said: “DB12 is a statement car. One that asserts Aston Martin’s position as a leader in performance, dynamics, engineering, and technology. We have pushed every aspect of this car to be best-in-class. The result is more power and performance than its rivals. Combined with exceptional handling and an exciting soundtrack, it is a car with passion and a truly sporting character. Crucially, thanks to its breadth of capability, we have achieved this without compromising refinement, comfort, and luxury. Together with our use of industry-leading dynamic control and infotainment systems, DB12 is the start of Aston Martin’s most exciting new era.”

DB12 delivers a strong message without any qualifiers or apologies. One that has the self-assurance of a vehicle capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, reaching a peak speed of 202 mph, and boasting best-in-class power from its 4.0 Twin-Turbo V8 engine. Compared to the old DB11, this outstanding hand-built engine is a 34% improvement, producing 680 PS/671 bhp at 6000 rpm and 800 Nm/590 lb ft between 2750 and 6000 rpm.

The Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) system in the DB12 is the best in the business because it provides the driver with the ideal amount of dynamic support without hampering their freedom of movement. The ESP button on the centre console allows you to toggle between four different ESP settings (Wet, On, Track, and Off). Each component works in harmony to provide gradual regulation without requiring jarring adjustments.

The system is able to function thanks to data gathered from a variety of sensors installed all around the car, the most cutting-edge of which is the brand-new six-axis inertia measuring unit. The intricate data from the accelerometer is used to reconstruct the car’s motion in real time. The system then utilises state-of-the-art algorithms to anticipate the available grip and respond to transient instability.

Its high-tech technology is built to be unnoticed by the driver while continuously ensuring their safety in every situation, so they may make the most of their vehicle and the road conditions. All of the chassis control systems (ABS, Traction Control, and Lateral Dynamics) are underpinned by the same predictive, model-based technology in a way that has never been done before, giving drivers an unparalleled degree of confidence and enjoyment.

The DB12 has five different preset driving modes in addition to its multi-mode ESP; the first three, GT, Sport, and Sport+, gradually alter the vehicle’s dynamic behaviour, giving the driver greater leeway to push the limits of grip and traction. Stability is improved in wet mode on surfaces with poor grip. In Individual mode, the driver has complete control over the vehicle’s systems and may adjust the chassis, engine, ESP, and traction control to their liking.

The knurled rotary controller in the centre console is used to choose between the car’s five preset driving modes. Underneath and to the left of the rotary controller on the centre console are buttons that may be used to manually override the vehicle’s chassis, electronic stability programme (ESP), and exhaust system. They let the driver choose their preferred parameters over those prioritised by the drive mode.

The DB12’s appearance is a brazen display of strength and confidence. Exuding the self-assuredness and commanding attention due to its astonishingly athletic build, calculated aggressiveness, and unrivalled grace that Aston Martin is known for, the DB11 combines 75 years of DB legacy with segment-defining dimensions befitting the world’s first super tourer.

The revised front end has a wider, reshaped radiator aperture and a reshaped splitter, giving the car a more muscular appearance that belies the power it packs. The track has been stretched by 6mm in the front and 22mm in the back. The wide-track posture of the DB12 is supplemented by standard-fit 21-inch forged alloy wheels, which are framed by new Light Emitting Diode (LED) headlights with a unique new Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) signature and detailed surface detailing. The modernised version of the classic Aston Martin wings logo is prominently displayed on the front fascia. Being the first sports vehicle to get the new wings, the DB12 represents the dawn of a thrilling new era. To further enhance the aerodynamic profile of the vehicle, new, smaller, frameless wing mirrors have been added to the redesign, and to help passengers enter the vehicle, current door handles have been installed.

Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin, adds: “DB12 is our design definition of a Super Tourer. Historically, the GT code among most contemporary enthusiasts meant some semblance of comfort, speed, and refinement. But since the Aston Martin customer is no ordinary motorist, and we no longer simply design objects in and of themselves, we’ve fused everything together on the DB12 — the handling, dynamics, powertrain, sense of space, and styling— and we’ve done it to the max through technology to deliver this new category of performance-design driving experience.”

“We know that when the owner of an Aston Martin heads out for open-road driving at the upper limits, hoping to reach those exhilarating moments of perfection, they are seeking the thrills of speed and performance while safely commanding control of their experience. DB12 intuitively knows what the driver is wanting and effortlessly gives them that optimal combination at any driving moment. It’s this total experience that separates the DB12 as the first breed of Super Tourer”.

The DB12 is the newest member of Aston Martin’s most prestigious family tree, and it represents the brand in every way. The DB12’s style reflects this comprehensive development by including a new front end treatment, broader stance, and more muscular surfaces. The cabin has also been given a makeover, with sleek horizontal lines emphasising the airiness of the cabin and giving a modern setting for the latest in entertainment technology. The DB12 is the epitome of the new type of Super Tourer; it is strikingly modern while being undeniably Aston Martin.

The DB12’s new, ultra-luxurious interior pampers passengers in the latest in design and technology, equipping them with Aston Martin’s next-generation bespoke infotainment system and a formidable suite of connected technology while also providing spectacular aural delights courtesy of audio partner Bowers & Wilkins.

The DB12’s cabin is a beautiful and opulent retreat because to its combination of modern and traditional design, expert craftsmanship, and high-quality materials. The design persona is centred on the driver’s cabin, which features the integration of standard features and high-end craftsmanship and materials. In the ultra-luxurious cockpit, passengers sit below the shoulder line and interact with a high centre console that features both digital displays and traditional knobs and dials. To maximise driver involvement, the dashboard’s controls are positioned along the cabin’s central axis, and the interior’s aggressive horizontal lines are softened by tasteful ornamentation and unique detailing.

All Aston Martins are built with a dedication to quality craftsmanship. Wrapped in fragrant, hand-stitched Bridge of Weir hides, this enveloping area exemplifies real Super Tourer qualities, such as the ability to give exceptional comfort over long distances while still providing the support and connection required to deliver optimum driving enjoyment. DB12’s latest quilts showcase exquisite workmanship and individual style. The new quilting design is used on premium materials, including genuine leather and Alcantara®.

Aston Martin’s groundbreaking DB12 model marks the debut of their next-generation infotainment system. It is Aston Martin’s first in-house system and is completely custom-made for the company.

Displayed on 10.25-inch Pure Black, 1970x720 high-resolution panels with ultra-responsive (30 ms response time), capacitive touch control, the new system is wirelessly compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and is part of a fully integrated multi-screen system.

The major mechanical activities of DB12, including gear selection, drive selection, heating, and ventilation, are still controlled by buttons because the designers realised the requirement for harmony between touchscreen commands and the positive tactility of physical switches. The most frequently used controls are never out of reach thanks to the presence of override switches for the chassis, ESP, and exhaust, as well as Lane Assist and Park Distance Control.

Connectivity to the internet is included in the new DB12 navigation system, making it smarter, faster, and more informative than ever before. The driver may check up on their go-to eatery, peruse the reviews, and make an informed decision, all thanks to their internet connection. Instead, they may select a location from the Aston Martin App and have it sent directly to their waiting DB12.

The new 3D mapping with muted tones provides clear direction with lane markings and traffic updates in real time. Dynamic routing across a connected network eliminates waiting times. Those who prefer a bird’s-eye perspective can use the satellite view, which is dynamically downloaded so that they can see their immediate surroundings as they drive.

The new Aston Martin app and internet connectivity are the system’s lynchpins in the DB12. The DB12 is the first Aston Martin to include two-way communication and an interactive dashboard.
