RR Private Collection: An Expression of Spellbinding Beauty.

The rare beauty of a solar eclipse has inspired Rolls-Royce to unveil the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection. By channelling the immense power of this celestial event, the artists behind these commissions have recreated the breathtaking moment when the moon totally blocks out the Sun.

The unadulterated Rolls-Royce Ghost, coupled with the rebellious Black Badge spirit, gives the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective a blank slate upon which to paint any vision they may imagine of this cosmic marvel.

On October 14, 2023, everyone in the Western Hemisphere will be able to see an annular solar eclipse, and the release of these 25 one-of-a-kind Bespoke motor cars will coincide with the event.

The car's exterior colour, Lyrical Copper, evokes the mystical, ethereal glow of a total solar eclipse. Powdered copper pigment is used to create a magnificent iridescence in this Bespoke finish, making the color look deeper in low light. Inserts below the Pantheon Grille and the brake callipers are decorated in Mandarin to evoke the sudden, blinding flashes of sunlight that are visible as an eclipse unfolds. The beautiful abstract picture of daylight turning to night as the moon moves in to cover the Sun is hand-painted onto the coachline in the same Mandarin colour.

Like the eclipse that inspired it, the Bespoke Starlight Headliner in the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis creates an atmosphere of amazement and wonder for its passengers. When the coach doors are shut and the engine is turned on, the'stars' in the Starlight Headliner begin to darken, and a captivating sequence begins, imitating the moment of totality during a solar eclipse, when the Moon's black silhouette totally blocks out the dazzling light of the Sun. The 940'stars' in a circle stand in for the brilliant light halo that surrounds the moon. The additional 192 glowing "stars" around it recreate the surreal experience of seeing stars in broad daylight, as is possible only during a total solar eclipse.

The maximum length of a total solar eclipse, seen in the animation, lasts exactly seven minutes and thirty-one seconds. After this period of time has passed, the whole constellation of stars' in the night sky will once again be visible. The Bespoke Collective spent a full year perfecting the design and sequencing of the "stars," a highly technical element that needed three fully functional prototypes.

The 1,846 laser-etchedstars' decorate the lighted fascia of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis to represent the stages of a total eclipse. The mesmerising look was the result of over a hundred hours of painstaking work by a single Bespoke designer who meticulously tweaked the size and placement of eachstar' to get the desired effect.

The item builds to a Bespoke clock set with a brilliant-cut 0.5-carat diamond, evoking the 'Diamond Ring' appearance that occurs when the Moon completely blocks out the Sun for an instant and then reveals a single, bright point of light on its rim in those fractional seconds. This is the first time in Rolls-Royce's history that a gemstone has been placed into the bezel of a clock; therefore, the bezel geometry had to be adjusted to fit the expensive jewel. To ensure the diamond is securely attached, the assembly was put through a battery of adhesion tests, which included cycling the temperature of a climate cell from -30°C to +90°C. The watch's black aluminium bezel is etched to reveal shiny metal below as the final touch. Over the course of 14 revisions, this modern work of art was perfected.

During the brief time of totality during a solar eclipse, a golden twilight appears all around the observers, creating the impression of a sunset occurring from every direction. The beauty of this seldom-seen phenomenon is represented in the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis by bi-coloured seats with a one-of-a-kind perforated artwork made up of more than 200,000 separate holes.

The distinctive Mandarin leather is dyed a dark colour and perforated to expose a lighter, contrasting hue, resulting in a striking aesthetic impression. The Bespoke Collective created a one-of-a-kind pattern using computational design methods, which was then hand-improved through seven iterations.

Among the Private Collection's many one-of-a-kind details is a custom indoor motor car cover emblazoned with the company's name and a set of LED treadplates.

The 25 units of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection were all sold to customers from different parts of the globe.
