Metaphoria: The Masterful Play of Textures and Colours.
Gold that is as fluid as water. Rivers of priceless stones, glistening across the skin in natural patterns. These items' distinctive forms, created with extraordinary creativity, replicate the skillful interplay of textures and colors. In the 52 extraordinary pieces that were completely handcrafted in the ateliers of the Maison to create the new high jewelry collection Metaphoria, Piaget imagines nature as a strong, generous presence that is mirrored and enhanced by the collection.
The "21st Century Collection" by Yves Piaget, which included wildly extravagant jewelry watches with decorative stones set into their dials as well as engraved gold sautoir and cuff watches, was unveiled in 1969. He laid the foundation for Piaget's recognizable style with this collection. festive, elegant, and original. “Experimentation, innovation, and joy are part of the Maison’s DNA. From as early as the 1960s, Piaget dared to introduce coral, turquoise, and lapis lazuli into watchmaking and into unique pieces of jewellery, observes Benjamin Comar, Piaget CEO. This desire to use unexpected materials in pieces created to high jewellery standards is still at the very core of our identity. “
The "21st Century Collection" is transformed into "Metaphoria" in 2023, a stunning metaphor for nature and its metamorphoses. Piaget presents its vision of modern fine jewelry by paying respect to its primary source of inspiration: vivid, bright nature, with this collection of 41 pieces of jewelry and 11 timepieces, separated into the two chapters Azureia and Beautanica. All of the items in the collection are manufactured in Piaget's Geneva studio, where there are more than seven distinct occupations in the high jewellery atelier alone. This prolific inventiveness is matched with recognized savoir-faire. By incorporating exquisite jewels into the patterns, Metaphoria is given a distinctive personality and chic individuality.
Far from limiting itself to a purely figurative interpretation of nature, rarely seen at Piaget, the Maison has selected the most emblematic elements of nature: the living energy of oceans, mountains, and forests. “Our goal was to emphasise details that call to mind natural phenomena, such as the flow of a waterfall or the rays of the sun, while inspiring a particular emotion, explains Stéphanie Sivrière, creative director at Piaget. The materials we use, from insect elytra to precious wood, were selected to bring an unpredictable, living element to a piece of 21st century high jewellery. “
Metaphoria is the pinnacle of the particular rules of Piaget's style, in which inventive design meets astonishing savoir-faire and the unrelenting quest of perfection. It has contrasting materials, a play with shape and light, fluidity, and asymmetry.
This Mineralis set, a centerpiece of the Metaphoria line, is made out of jewelry that seems like it might have been plucked right out of a mountain river. Consider this stunning asymmetrical necklace made of rock crystal, diamonds, sapphires, and aquamarine. Piaget jewelers combine the flowing, vividly blue sapphires, whose inverted settings give the item an ultra-modern aspect, with the transparency of rock crystal—random patches of brilliance that border the margins of rivers. A 13.25-carat cushion-cut aquamarine with a lagoon blue color shines in the center of this distinctive gem. The jewelry is complemented with matching earrings and rings, one of which has a 4.1-carat Sri Lanka sapphire placed in it.
The uncommon marriage of aquamarine with Akoya pearls and diamonds in this Aqua Summa set, which the Maison uses to portray its image of frost and ice, radiates extraordinary beauty. The collar necklace has an invisible clasp and is fully flexible. It displays cerulean aquamarines with pear shapes, the biggest of which is over 4 carats in weight. The item may be paired with earrings and a stunning cocktail ring set with a 12.48-carat cushion-cut aquamarine that is set in white gold and covered with a frost of sparkling diamonds.
With the Alata collection, Piaget transforms leaves into gold, mother-of-pearl, and diamonds on luxurious but amorphous items in the form of a watch, necklace, and earrings. An absolutely stunning accessory to adorn the outer border of the ear is presented here in the form of a gold and titanium "earcuff" with gold leaves, white gold flecks, diamonds, gold mother-of-pearl, and engravings of the Decor Palace design. A statement ring was also made by Piaget Jewelers. A 2.23 carat pear-shaped diamond is adorned in the center of the leaf on this item. A gorgeous cuff watch with a marquetry of mother-of-pearl, engraved gold, and marquise-cut diamonds on its body completes the ensemble. A work that demonstrates Piaget's impeccable control over even the minute elements.
Piaget took design cues from the hues of the forest for this Terrae parure, fusing the green of tourmaline with the brown of tiger's eye and rutilated quartz. The eye-catching pendant features a cushion-cut tourmaline weighing about 16 carats in the center and is framed by vertical rows of square tourmaline beads. This strong combination is completed by a ring, a bracelet, and earrings.
Goldsmithery, one of the Maison's primary specialties, is at the core of Essentia with its range of rose-gold and diamond jewelry that is characterized by organic forms. The curb necklace, a signature item in this collection, is constructed of enormous links with uneven forms that resemble driftwood seen on the beach. A wristwatch and earrings round off the ensemble.
The Maison is now revealing Adrivea, a ring that shows the time, as one of its signature pieces, continuing the heritage of high-end jewelry secret watches. Its dial glitters with diamonds and is surrounded by waves of glistening gems and blue sapphires that embellish the setting of this large piece, which is set under a 10.88-carat aquamarine cabochon.
Foliatura, a jewelry watch set with a superb cushion-cut Colombian emerald measuring 6.59 carats, is another distinctive item. Its white gold body displays amazing craftsmanship as it combines stylized chrysoprase leaves and intertwined diamonds against a background of gold that has Decor Palace engravings. The watch dial is cleverly positioned on the bottom portion of the band, allowing the wearer to read the time discreetly.
Eventually, Piaget added a novel new twist to its "Métiers d'Art" watches. Similar to Alitura, whose mosaic dial of decorative stones mimics priceless damask fabric, the Undulata watch combines unexpected elements. The iridescent green dial was designed by Rose Saneuil and has a marquetry of straw, wood, leather, parchment, and elytra. It also incorporates an hour chapter and a very thin tourbillon, calibre 670P, all of which were produced solely by Piaget. This masterpiece exudes accuracy with its two rings of baguette- and brilliant-cut diamonds.
Last but not least, Piaget watchmakers present an extravagantly jeweled version of the well-known cushion-shaped Black Tie watch that Andy Warhol, one of the most devoted Piaget Society customers, made famous. blends an emerald-cut baguette bezel and markers with a dial made of petrified wood. The Manufacture's ultra-thin mechanical calibre 534P, the spark that starts the fire, drives this unique piece.
