Krayon: Art as an Ode to Nature.

Time as a personal link to our blue planet is the vision that the one-of-a-kind Anywhere Only Watch 2023 presents, a combination of peaceful craftsmanship and technological expertise.

Once again demonstrating its dedication to maintaining the high degree of workmanship that has distinguished elite watchmaking and timepiece decorating for more than four decades, Krayon demonstrates an absolute mastery of method, materials, and know-how. Am I not right in thinking that the only way to guarantee the continued viability of these age-old practices is to nurture them while giving them a modern spin?

For Only Watch 2023, KRAYON once more invites viewers to consider nature and take an inside trip by reinterpreting the form and motion of the breathtaking painting Coastal Scene by the Belgian artist Théo van Rysselberghe. Exhibited at the National Gallery in London as an example of the neo-impressionist trend, this work, which is both magnificent and perplexing in its detail, uses the pointillist method to bring forms and movements shockingly to life.

Krayon had previously experimented with miniature painting, a technique that involves applying each color by hand in tiny cells cut out of the metal, in order to produce an incredibly detailed piece for the 2021 Only Watch edition. Once again drawing inspiration from the work of Théo van Rysselberghe, Krayon sticks to blue while delving into the very detailed technique of pointillism.

The artist's deft touch with delicate strokes, the paint applied in delicate, expert strokes, creating subtle reliefs on this "canvas dial," the plethora of blue hues, the sky reflected in the waves, the light caressing their surface, contrasting to expose a plethora of shiny bits... The dial unveils an extraordinary invention in a precisely regulated circular movement, paying homage to traditional methods by enlisting the help of rare experts who proudly guard their secrets even now.

The artistic sensitivity of the dial and the technical skill of the movement: this watch, created by Krayon creator and watch designer Rémi Maillat, maintains time-honored Swiss traditions while pleasing connoisseurs and fans of rare subtleties.

begin with a tribute to the natural world. In their Anywhere Only Watch 2023, Krayon pays homage to nature by enticing collectors and fans of rare refinements who are on the hunt for a unique feature: the ability to show the time of day in the exact place selected by the user, regardless of where they are in the globe.

The refined pointillist dial and modern grade 5 titanium casing of this hyper-complication, a personalised ephemeris that is closely associated with its owner, further enhance its uniqueness. An exquisite wristwatch that showcases the unmatched skill of the independent Swiss watchmaker once more, and not just in terms of the meticulous hand-finishing.

Anywhere Only Watch 2023, a one-of-a-kind creation for the Only Watch 2023 charity auction, embodies the ideal of technological mastery and tranquil craftsmanship with its 432-component construction. Building on the Anywhere Only Watch 2021 Edition, its remarkable dial fuses cutting-edge technical expertise with inspiration from modern art.

As the sun's many rays dance across the water's surface before sunrise or sunset, this year's Anywhere watch takes on a more purposeful look with a kaleidoscope of blue hues that serve as an invitation to reflection. This is an enchanted time when the natural world is suspended, waiting to either embrace or reject light.

Imagine for a second that you could pinpoint the precise moment when the sun will rise or set at any location you choose. Regardless of your physical or spiritual location, you have the power to choose. Anywhere in the world. A new complication has emerged in the realm of fine watchmaking: anywhere. The duration of our personal connection to the planet is shown at any location. The one that belongs to us—the one that we can see, imagine, remember, or feel in our hearts—is the most essential location of all.

Rémi Maillat, the creator of the brand and a watchmaking engineer, can take abstract ideas and turn them into intricate works of art with the touch of a pencil. The wearer of his Anywhere watch is immersed in a global yet personal watchmaking experience as it shows the passage of time and the times of sunrise and sunset at a location on the earth that they have individually selected. Krayon resides at this subjective-objective geographical crossroads, where time and space are experienced emotionally. It defies habit and conventional wisdom by presenting time as a watch. Things are as unique as the people who experience them; much like mornings and evenings, they are never the same.

Because of their intricate design and the fact that their calendar displays are based on astronomical observations made by ancient civilizations, collectors and connoisseurs have long regarded timepieces with dates or astronomical indications as mechanical engineering marvels.

By virtue of the profound horological science that underpins it, a calendar watch becomes an even more symbolic link with the universe for individuals who fully appreciate its breadth.

An astronomical challenge was mechanically solved by creating the calendar. Throughout history, astronomers, mathematicians, high priests, and citizens of ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome have all been concerned with how to integrate the lunar and solar calendars into a system of whole numbers.

The Anywhere Only Watch 2023 has a floating dial in the centre that displays the hours and minutes with the help of two hands. A little sun that shows the time over a 24-hour period spins perpetually on an annular display that encircles it. Each sector of the ring-shaped zone—the day sector in azure blue and the night sector in dark blue—has an arc length that corresponds to the periods of sunrise and sunset, as shown on the réhaut or flange.

Instead of utilising a fixed cam, Krayon developed a mechanical positioning mechanism that incorporates the geographical component by means of rakes and rockers. Both the reference position and the calendar dictate the relative positions of the two sapphire discs. In order to do this, Anywhere has a secondary dial located at 6 o'clock that displays the date and month. All the months in this double calendar add up to 31. As a result, all it needs are five easy adjustments every year, done in both directions with the crown.

Rémi Maillat has taken these ideas with her and given them a modern spin, even if they have their origins in the past.

Rémi Maillat, the original watchmaker from Krayon, created, developed, and assembled the Calibre C030 movement in Neuchatel, Switzerland. It is the engine that drives Krayon's Anywhere Only Watch 2023. This model's replacement was created for the 2021 Only Watch charity auction.

Astonishing the beholder with its capacity to define a geographical and temporal point to which only they are linked, the movement's technical complexity (432 components, 72 hours of operation) captivates despite its (apparent) simplicity, width, and slimness (only 5 mm).

In keeping with a philosophy that is important to Rémi Maillat, the user may programme the watch to their preferred city or location based on the exact hours of sunrise and sunset at that location.
