Jan Luyken: An Atmosphere More Like to That of a Visit to a Friend's House.
After a multi-million-pound renovation, the Jan Luyken Amsterdam, a 62-room boutique townhouse hotel in the centre of Amsterdam, has reopened. Jan Luyken wants their guests to feel at home in the townhouse, so they've provided all of the amenities they'll need.
Jan Luyken is ideally located for cultural explorers of the capital, as it is situated at the intersection of the Museum Quarter and the city's most elegant shopping street, The PC. From here, guests can easily reach the Concertgebouw, widely regarded as one of the world's finest concert halls, as well as the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Stedelijk Museum.
Jan Luyken was named after the 17th-century Amsterdam master poet and etcher Jan Luyken, for whom architect P. van der Vliet constructed the first three residential homes.
The ground floor common areas have been recently renovated by Nicemakers, an Amsterdam-based interior design firm inspired by the city's energy and Dutch craftsmanship. The townhouse is built and decorated in a way that invites visitors to relax, work, and play as they see fit. The ground level is designed to seem like a guest's own house, complete with antique and contemporary furnishings imported from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy.
The library is located in the middle of the townhouse and looks out over the private garden. There is a wide variety of art books on the shelves as a tribute to the adjacent Rijksmuseum, the Dutch national museum of art and history.
The kitchen in this townhouse is a casual, open area perfect for gathering with friends and family at any time of day, with handcrafted tiles, a shared table, and a couch nook. Breakfast will consist of a variety of fan favourites, highlighting the finest in seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and handcrafted baked goods. Guests can help themselves to homemade coffee, tea, and juices, as well as red and white house wines and bottled beers from the area, at any time during the day. Craftails, a collection of ready-to-serve cocktails handpicked by Belgium's top bartenders, is also available in a chilled state.
A home gym allows you to exercise in the comfort of your own home. There is floor space for mat-based activities and high-end, handcrafted hardwood gym equipment from NOHrD for cardiovascular and strength training. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the garden and textured cork walls are meant to motivate you to work out harder. If you want to see the city like a native, there are bicycles at the house for your use.
The bedrooms are decorated with rich, natural textiles in vivid, warm tones, and the beds are topped off with carefully selected bed linens and soft furnishings from Amsterdam designers Elle La and Bonnie Barlag. Modern conveniences like CODAGE toiletries, plush bathrobes, and drip coffee machines in the room round out the experience.
The typical "check-in" process may be avoided with the use of mobile check-in and a digital key, allowing hosts to provide their visitors an atmosphere more like to that of a visit to a friend's house.
House hosts are discretely on hand 24 hours a day to check visitors in, provide useful information about the area, and guarantee a pleasant stay.
