Historic Greek Region of Zagori Cultural Landscape Joins the UNESCO World Heritage List

The isolated Zagori Cultural Landscape has been officially recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An announcement was made during the annual UNESCO World Legacy Committee conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, about this well-received decision. It is the first Greek landscape to be recognised for its "modern-era heritage" in the list and the sole Greek inclusion since 1999.

Only 19 Greek sites, including the Acropolis in Athens, Old Town in Corfu, and now the Zagori Cultural Topography, are included in this elite list, which is an amazing accomplishment for the region and emphasises Zagori's rich cultural legacy, distinctive rough topography, and natural beauty. Located in the centre of the Zagori region, Aristi Mountain Resort & Villas is eager to continue welcoming visitors to this remarkable place rich in history and natural beauty.

Places designated as World Heritage Sites by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) are recognised for their cultural, historical, scientific, or environmental value and are under protection. The locations are recognised for their exceptional universal importance and serve as significant markers that add to humanity's collective history. The stone settlements of Zagori "showcase a traditional architecture adapted to the mountain topography," according to the UNESCO website. A national park in Ethiopia, a Chinese tea plantation, a Roman temple in France, and an assemblage of Turkish mosques are among the other new locations.

Nestled in the northwest corner of Greece, Zagori, Epirus, is a mountain wonderland with 46 stone-built villages. The region is pleased to provide a distinct side of Greece, one that welcomes exciting adventure and in-depth investigation, with an average population density of four people per square kilometre. The glistening waters of the Voidomatis River and the Pindus mountain range pierce the tumbling Gorge of Vikos (the world's deepest in relation to its width, according to Guinness World Records) and the captivating Towers of Astraka. The word "Zagori" means "beyond the mountains." Discover historic monasteries, cross charming stone bridges built in the eighteenth century, and savour delectable regional fare.

One of the communities that welcomes guests with open arms is Aristi, despite being hardly on the tourist map. This is because Vasilis Iosifidis had the idea to establish a luxurious mountain getaway. The 26 rooms, suites, and villas of Aristi Mountain Resort & Villas are thoughtfully positioned across the property to provide expansive views and inspire guests to respectfully and curiously explore the surroundings. Exclusive access to all of the amazing facilities, including the upscale restaurant Salvia and outdoor spa, is provided to guests. These areas are ideal for unwinding and revitalising following a day of sightseeing in the area.

“We are honoured that the Zagori Cultural Landscape has joined the UNESCO World Heritage List and is receiving the recognition it deserves. Still an undiscovered region, Zagori is a special part of Greece and with an important history that feeds into the local culture today. Our guests receive unique experiences that encourage them to explore and understand the striking surrounding landscapes and learn about the heritage of the area. At our resort, sustainability is at the heart of all we do and celebrating the area's cultural significance and natural beauty is of paramount importance.
