CYCLOS III - Legendary Masterpiece.
The fabled masterpiece Cyclos III, which was built at the esteemed Royal Huisman shipyard in The Netherlands, is a work of nautical art that has had a lasting impact on the luxury yachting industry. This magnificent 42.36-meter-long sailing monster made its debut in 1990, displaying the flawless workmanship and inventiveness that are characteristic of Royal Huisman.
Similar to the fast but uncomfortable supercars of the previous century, fast (or racing) sailing boats were not exactly the place to be in the 1980s.. Things changed in yacht building with the arrival of the CYCLOS III, whose client at that time said: "I want to break the pattern, I want this boat to be as chic and luxurious as the old J-class yachts, but it has to be faster than the modern Maxis." Accepting this challenge, Ron Holland created a light and swift boat that was exceptional for its day, including a minimalist interior and little wood.
CYCLOS III is more than simply a yacht; it's a floating monument to technical brilliance, built with elegance and perfection. As was already said, the outside appeal of this storied yacht displays the unique touch of Ron Holland Design, while the interior oozes refinement tastefully chosen by Winch Design. CYCLOS III is a real seafaring castle that provides opulent lodging for up to 10 guests in unmatched comfort. This aluminium hull and superstructure, which seamlessly blend strength and grace, are the foundation of this nautical legend. CYCLOS III is a symbol of Royal Huisman's dedication to pushing the frontiers of nautical innovation, as well as the pinnacle of naval design as it smoothly glides across the wide oceans.
Back in 1990 Alice Huisman commented on CYCLOS III as follows: “CYCLOS III represents the largest and most powerful sailing yacht of her generation, one that would not only push the boundaries of modern yacht design, but would continue to set a standard to this very day. Whithout doubt she remains in a class of her own, where sheer sailing performance is matched only by her timeless contemporary interior that wraps the ardent sailor in pure luxury afloat. CYCLOS not only embraced new technologies but she harnessed them in a way that had not been seen before. It is breathtaking to see CYCLOS sailing to windward and reaching in excess of 16 knots.”
And Andrew Winch, responsible for the interior, said: “CYCLOS III was groundbreaking in many ways, pushing all the boundaries of the definition of a superyacht at that time. Back then, the original owner requested that there should be no wood visible on the interior. The result is a high-gloss interior, that has withstood the passion of time – and creates a sparkling reflection of light that remains unique to this day.”
The present owner has managed to keep the boat in outstanding and original condition, including the Andrew Winch-designed interior, with continual and painstaking maintenance. A new teak deck, two new Reckmann headsail furlers, and a complete paint job were all part of the extensive restoration that the sailing boat received in 2017.
Because of the way she is today, CYCLOS III is still regarded as one of the most avant-garde yachts in the world and serves as a benchmark for evaluating megayachts' sailing capabilities.
